HappyWars Game Info

Happy Wars is a new game on Xbox 360 created by ToyLogic which is available to download and play for free on Xbox LIVE. It may be free to play, but is it worth your time?

Happy Wars has a cartoony, silly atmosphere so it is not for everybody. The game itself plays a lot like Star Wars: Battlefront in that each team has a base and must capture towers where you may then respawn at when you die. This enables you to get back into the battle quicker depending on your spawn location. Unlike Battlefront, there are no tickets expended when you spawn. Each team has infinite soldiers available at their disposal. To win, you must lay siege to the enemy castle and destroy their "Big Tower."

There are three classes of soldier available to choose from: Warrior, Mage, and Cleric. They are all pretty straight forward with Clerics being the class that builds defenses and heals allies, Mages being the class that uses devastating attack spells and weapon enchantments, and Warriors just being your tough guys on the front lines.

While you are in a game, Happy Wars is incredibly simplistic but outside of battle, in the menus, is where it becomes complex. There are tons of items that can be leveled up, combined, and modified with special abilities. Each item weighs a specific amount so you will also have to level up your character in order to carry some of the better equipment. The items system gives Happy Wars a sort of RPG-esque quality to it as you are constantly getting stronger and improving the more you play. Character appearance can also be customized.

In addition to finding items on the battlefield, you can also purchase them with "Happy Tickets" or win them with by betting "Happy Stars" on a mini game. Happy Stars are earned by playing the game but Happy Tickets must actually be purchased with Microsoft Points (80 MSP = 8 Tickets). Using Happy Tickets to get items puts you on the fast track for all the best stuff. This is why the game is free to play. ToyLogic is relying on the monetization of micro-transactions to turn a profit. This model is becoming more and more popular in the video game industry today with games such as League of Legends drawing in millions of users. Happy Stars and Happy Tickets must also be used to rank up your items.
